Mother's Day traces its modern origins to the early 20th century in the United States, largely through the efforts of Anna Jarvis.
She campaigned to establish a day to honor the sacrifices and care of mothers, inspired by her own mother’s dedication to community service. In 1914, U.S. President Woodrow Wilson officially declared Mother’s Day a national holiday, to be observed on the second Sunday of May.
Today, Mother’s Day is celebrated worldwide as a heartfelt occasion to recognize and appreciate mothers and maternal figures. While customs vary by country, common traditions include giving flowers, cards, and gifts, as well as spending quality time with family.
